Pacific Tropical Storm?

I wasn't going to post today since our weather is so beautiful.  But I was watching Zack Fradella  (Birthday Boy!)at 4 PM and he showed what sure looks like a developing tropical system in the eastern Pacific.

According to Zack, IF this system is named over the weekend, it will be the earliest named storm in eastern Pacific history.  Their hurricane season begins on May15th, but this is way too soon to be thinking about the tropics.

Today was as good as it gets with highs in the mid 80s with very low humidity.  Yesterday's front pushed far enough offshore chasing away the 70+ dewpoints replacing them with the 50s.   There is an upper disturbance racing across the U.S. well to our north, but it will only re-enforce the drier air over us now.   Our dry spell should last for much of next week.

While we have clear skies here, but that allows us to see the cloudy waters leaking into Lakes Pontchartrain & Borgne from the opening of the Spillway.  You can also see the cloudy waters from the muddy Mississippi surrounding the mouth of the River.  The Carrollton gage has fallen below 17 feet, but not by much.   A real fall won't happen for another 5-7 days so the current 80 bays of the Spillway that are open won't see much change until the River gets to less than 16 feet.   Since it was opened April 2nd, it appears this years opening will last about a month, far less time than last year.  Still the quicker it's closed the better.  As I said yesterday, get outside and enjoy this great feeling air.  Stay tuned!
