Severe Threat Staying West?

SPC hinted yesterday about a slight change for storm storms here during our late afternoon.  They updated the area for greatest risk this morning to place us in level 2.   Radar is showing a broad line of storms approaching from the NW.

The more numerous lightning strikes are from Baton Rouge westward and that is where SPC has issued a Severe T-Storm Watch until 8 PM.  Metro NOLA is not in that watch except for the Parishes west of Jefferson.   The severe threat appears to be mainly due to straight line winds (60-80+) and medium hail.   Lets keep alert for the next 4-6 hours and have your FOX 8 Weather App ready to warn you if danger approaches your location.

Note how chilly it is behind this front with Dallas only in the 60s.   Clouds linger well behind the front and, if we don't get into sunshine on Saturday, our highs will struggle to top 70.  Night time lows for Sunday and Monday will be in the 40s on the North Shore with 50s south.   That's jacket and sweater weather in Mid May !

This ends Hurricane Preparedness Week and I dare say very few folks are thinking hurricanes with Covid 19 around.  That's ok as we'll have plenty of time during the next several months to get ready.  I mentioned early about preseason storms often form along old frontal boundaries that drop into the Gulf and Tropical Atlantic.   Models have backed off anything happening with today's front.  It should bring some welcomed rainfall to South Florida over the weekend.  Finally, can you guess who the handsome man pictured above is?   Hint...He's a WSR   (World Series Hero)   Stay tuned!
