Hanna on Hold For Now...

Even though TD 8 is looking better organized on this afternoon's satellite loops, NHC is keeping it a TD for now.   They indicate another Recon flight this evening probably will find enough winds to name it Tropical Storm Hanna by 10 PM.

I know it sure looks like a Tropical Storm as T-Storms are developing around the center and it will be named shortly.  There has only been a slight shift in the NHC Forecast Track to the south (away from us!) with the main impacts expected to be over central and south Texas. You can see that if you follow the centerline track, which had been between Victoria and Corpus Christi, and it now south of Corpus.

The "nose" of the Bermuda high is expected to build westward and that will force soon to be Hanna away from us.  IF she continues to get better organized, we could actually see fewer showers/squalls around tomorrow although that is not the thinking of the local office of the NWS.   In fact, all the local weathercasters are showing us in a moderate risk for flooding tomorrow.

Showers have diminished the last couple of hours as winds have been brisk at 12-20 out of the east.  With temps in the 80s, it almost feels decent to be outside!  IF soon to be Hanna draws the moisture field into it and we see fewer showers and more sunshine on Friday, we'll be back to 90+.

The rest of the Tropics remain active with a new disturbance coming off of Africa now given a 20% chance to develop while T.S. Gonzalo churns way out in the Atlantic.  He is still expected to become a hurricane although the satellite presentation does not look very impressive.   The Euro model continues to indicate Gonzalo will weaken the farther west it gets in the Caribbean.  Finally, major Hurricane Douglas will affect Hawaii by late this weekend.  He is expected to weaken before reaching the Islands, but they will get heavy rainfall.

Obviously, this is not the kind of satellite view we ever want to see in the Gulf!   For now, we have missed another storm and that is good.  Stay tuned!
