It took longer than expected, but NHC upgraded TD 11 to Tropical Storm Josephine this morning. It is the earlier "J" named storm on record. This is another of those storms that are named but will not impact the U.S. Satellite pictures show wind shear has most of the T-Storms to the West & north of the center with few storms south and east.
Hurricane models predict Josephine will have a short life weakening back to a depression by Monday. The rest of the Gulf & Caribbean remain quiet with a new area I pointed out several posts back along the east coast.
NHC is giving this area a 30% chance for development, but as you can see, it will not impact land. If it develops, his name would be Kyle. We continue in the usual August doldrums with little air movement, plenty of heat & humidity with spotty, slow moving T-Storms.
Today's storms had lots of lightning and, like yesterday, left flooding rains over several neighborhoods. MSY received 1.27" in less than an hour while Chateau Golf & Country Club had barely enough to wet the ground. Friday will probably see a repeat. Compter models continue to show a deep east coast upper trough developing next week that could bring a cold front down through us. It won't be cooler but less humid allowing the nights to feel better. Stay tuned!
