Getting Mixed Messages...

Looking at the NHC 5 day outlook & watching The Weather Channel (TWC) showing computer models that have 3 disturbances in the Atlantic normally would make me nervous.   However, in the same time frame, the MJO goes into the unfavorable (sinking air) phase for the next 2-3 weeks.

Satellite views do have several clusters of storms in the Atlantic & moving off of Africa and could any of them develop?  Sure, but my experience tells me the farther westward they move into the sinking air MJO phase, the less likely any of these can become major storms.   Regardless, IF something does form out there, that 2 weeks away.
Personally, I'll be watching the eastern Gulf for early next week as ther's lots of disturbed weather over the Caribbean after Nana moving to the west combined with the predicted cold front coming down for later next week.

The top graphic is the upper trough for NEXT Thursday that should get a front close, if not trough us into the Gulf.  You can see how much drier air is behind the current front to our north, but that is not the real deal for us.  David mentioned last night he is still not sold on how strong a front is will build since we are still in early September.   I'll keep updating daily on our prospects for some relief form the heat & humidity and RIGHT NOW the front's timing is late Wednesday into Thursday.  We'll see.

Some extra satellite treats...smoke from forest fires is still evident over Brazil & California with the smoke (darker shades) being blown well offshore into the Pacific for hundreds of miles.   It will be awhile before their rainy seasons begin.

Finally, I have been showing you some of the really talented people I hired during my time at FOX 8.  Joining me above are Kim Vaughn, Chip Barrere & Chris Franklin.  Chris, I mentioned yesterday, now works on Ch. 4 while Kim left to get her masters degree in environmental engineering.  She and Chip were the geniuses behind the great looking graphics that made Ch. 8 Your Weather Authority.  Chip left to join a weather vendor out of Oklahoma using his computer programming skills to make them an industry leader.   My job was far easier because of these brilliant minds and I'm so proud of their successes.  Next update Friday PM.  Stay tuned!
