So the big question tonight will be who will freeze? That will depend on the winds. IF the winds go near calm, then even many areas on the South Shore could touch freezing.
The FOX 8 forecast is not calling for that, but look at how low the dew points are (teens & low 20s). We won't have any clouds to warm us so we'll really need the winds to stay up to keep the South Shore from a freeze. I'm keeping my plants in my He-Shed until the warm up begins tomorrow. Note Houston is back 60+.
Satellite views show no signs of return moisture so Saturday should be another day of bright sunshine. The center of the surface high is near Shreveport and will move across northern Louisiana overnight. This is the coldest airmass in quite some time, but it's not record cold. On the other hand, Boston hit 60 earlier today which is warmer than down in Miami. Both coasts are getting hit with Christmas Day storms.
That storm approaching the West Coast will work its way towards us by midweek with highs 70+ ahead of it. Our next rain chance will be late Wednesday on into Thursday & Friday as that front will get hung up in the upper flow. We'll finally get back into cold air for New Year's Day. It's what usually happens during the Winter months. Temperatures go on roller coaster rides with big swings from warm to cold.
Even though my Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) has only a couple of blooms, my huge Crown of Thorns (Euphorbia) is going nuts! It's nearly 6 feet tall and is leaning over so much I had to tie it to my gutter downspout. In addition, I have many roses giving my yard lots of Christmas color. Merry Christmas and to all a cold night. Stay tuned!
