It's pretty For a Day...

Well The Weather Channel's Winter Storm Gail has moved out to sea leaving behind the most snow in years for many cities in the NE.  My Sister-in-law (Susan) in Wilmington, DE. sent more pics taken this morning just after sunrise.

Especially liked the picture of St. Ann's church in Wilmington and the bridge over the Brandywine River.
They only received a couple of inches before turning to freezing rain.  Note how the tree limbs are glistering in the sunlight.  Philadelphia, NYC (10"+), & Boston(13"+) all received much more with Binghamton, NY getting the most at 41".

It should be interesting to see the snow on the ground in tomorrow's satellite views IF the clouds clear out.   High pressure will move right over us tonight and, with clear skies and light winds, we'll see near freezing temps with lots of frost on the North shore and away from the Lake south.

We'll see a warm up begin tomorrow and last into this weekend as our highs should get back to 60+.

Our next system is developing over the Rockies and it'll bring us our next cold front on Sunday.  Friday should see all day sunshine into early Saturday before clouds and showers develop Saturday into sunday ahead of the front.  IF the timing proves accurate, skies could clear late Sunday giving us an opportunity to see the Christmas Star on Dec. 21st.

Long range upper air charts still favor a chilly Christmas Day here.   The top graphic is today's upper flow showing the dip moving off the East coast with our next weather maker being the trough over the Rockies.

The bottom graphic is the forecast for Christmas morning with a deep Upper trough over the Great Lakes down to the Gulf coast.  There is some super cold air (45-50 below) in central Canada and IF that deep trough proves to be reality, we are likely to see freezing temps (even South Shore) for Christmas week.  RIGHT NOW, the axis of the trough is to our east meaning any storm will be well east of us.  IF I had to predict Christmas weather today, it looks to be sunny and cold with highs staying in the 40s.

Finally, on a sad note, one of my longtime directors at FOX 8 (Eric Krimsier) passed away after being in a terrible car accident 10 days ago.

As Kim Holden said on her FB page, "Eric was the voice in my ear telling which camera to look at for 3 decades."   Eric bailed me out so many times during my career when my 'clicker" wouldn't work.  He was a true professional, a gentle man and a terrific co-worker.   I am stunned, shocked & saddened that such a young man is no longer around to make Ch. 8 and the World a better place.  Peace my friend.
Stay tuned!
