The Beast In The East...

I was watching David Bernard last night showing what the models were forecasting for snow amounts in the Northeast.  They were indicating 2-3 FEET of da white stuff could cover many areas with even the big cities getting blanketed.

At noon Zack Fradella had an updated graphic having 20-30"+ north of NYC while The Weather Channel had slightly less.   My sister-in-law (Susan) in Wilmington, DE. sent me pics from her baloney overlooking the Brandywine River.

Sure looks pretty...from a far!  My thinking is...IF these totals prove true, then many folks are likely to see a White Christmas in the East.  Why?  Look at the upper air charts below.

The top one is the current view showing a minor dip/trough that is creating today's snowstorm.  Look how much deeper and broader the bottom graphic is with a straight shot of arctic air plunging down out of Canada.  That view is the forecast for Christmas Eve.   Wow!   Cold air pouring out of Canada with a Gulf storm moving up the East coast?  Could we see a southern snow?   Maybe as Central Canada is 30-40 below zero.

Even though there will be some impressive snow totals with today's storm, this is not a mega "bomb" event.

The rain/snow line will be critical as some areas will remain rain while only 20-30 miles to the west & north could see 1-2 feet.  For us, we're just trying to get back into sunshine.

We have seen a few sunny breaks, but they have been brief as the cold air clouds dominate.  Look at the "streamers" that align themselves to the low level wind flow.

The good news for tomorrow is the sun should be back, but it will remain very chilly as morning lows will dip below freezing on the North Shore and away from Lake P. south.  Also good news is rainfall returning to the West Coast.  They could use many weeks and weeks of rainy weather.

Finally, another snow pic from Wilmington showing the big flakes falling.  So cool.   I heard Philadelphia has received over an inch so far, which is more than they got ALL OF LAST SEASON!  I didn't know Philly went snowless last year.   Last time they received more than an inch of snow was in March of...2019!!!  Do we feel for them?  Nah, especially after what the Eagles did to us!  Stay tuned!
