Snow So Pretty, Oh So Pretty

Computer models predicted 8-12" in a swath from Illinois to the East Coast and they turned out to be very accurate.   Those of you snow geeks will enjoy the next set of pictures taken this morning after daylight.  We begin with my "baby sister" Carol (translation, much younger) in Whiting, Indiana.  The Hammond/Whiting areas received 6-10" of the white stuff.

There is something about a fresh snow pack that adds beauty to the typically bleak winter landscape.  Farther to the east in Washington D.C., my former co-worker Howard Bernstein sent me these pics.

Howard points out this is the first measurable snowfall for D.C. coming on the last day of January.   They are not done as a secondary low will form along the East Coast and deepen into a full scale Nor'easter tomorrow.   You can see from the radar view, snow stretches from Iowa to almost Boston.  The big cities (NYC, Philly, Boston) could all end up with totals of 1-2 feet before all is over late Tuesday.

Today's high was at noon (77) with temps. slowly falling this afternoon.  There will be a brief cool down on Monday & Tuesday that could bring freezing temps. in the morning on the North Shore.

A quick warm up returns by midweek before next weekend turns cold again.  Our next rain chance looks to be on Friday ahead of the next cold front.

Some clouds could briefly move over us this evening, but the next 2-3 days will see plenty of sunshine.

If you're dressed for it, we will have a nice stretch of weather until the muggies return on Thursday.  Next weekend we'll need to focus on the Arctic Air up over Canada.

Right now models are now showing a deep East Coast trough that would bring the super chill towards us.   However, it wouldn't take much to see the coldest so far this season arrive for next Sunday and Monday.  Don't give up on the chance for da white stuff since we'll be in early February. Until then, page back up and see what's happening up north.   Stay tuned!
