FOX 8 Weather App performed Flawlessly...

My last post reminded everyone to make sure your settings on your weather App were turned on since we expected over night storms.   Buda Boom!  Right around 4 AM my FOX 8 weather app woke me up for a tornado warning.  It was already storming outside with lots of lightning.  I quickly turned on Ch. 8 to find Shelby Latino showing the current radar views pointing out where the heaviest storms were.  After watching for 10 minutes, it was clear to me the dangerous part of the line of storms were now to our east and I could go back to bed.  However, we may have to endure another round of overnight storms after midnight on Friday and before daybreak on Saturday.  SPC is indicating just that in their severe weather outlooks.

The top graphic is valid for Friday into Saturday morning with the level 3 danger area just to our north.  that is where their also is a danger for large hail. (middle graphic).  The bottom graphic is valid for Saturday so the severe threat could last into midday.

Looking at the satellite views continue to highlight a well defined comma shape to the upper disturbance centered in Iowa.  There appears to be nothing coming in off the West Coast, so where will Friday night's storm come from?  The Water Vapor loop (bottom graphic) has our next swirl of clouds over Idaho & Montana that will quickly head into the central plains tomorrow.  That will be the trigger for our next round of severe weather.

The surface cold front never got close as the line of storms last night raced out ahead of it.  We did see lower dew points (40s North Shore), but south winds are already bringing back the low level moisture.

After a stormy start, skies cleared and left us with a beautiful day.  However, storms are already developing south of Dallas and that's a sign of things to come.   Friday's daylight hours should be mostly dry with the greatest chance for storms coming after midnight towards 4-5 AM.  (a repeat?)  We picked up 2-3" totals this morning, but the line of storms did not stall and kept moving.   That is what we expect with the next round tomorrow night.  Again, have you cell phone next to your bed so, if warnings are issued, you'll hear about them immediately.  Have FOX 8 be the last channel you watch before you go to sleep so when you turn on the TV, We are there for you.  Stay tuned!
