Strong Upper Disturbance Brings Severe Weather Risk...

Yesterday I pointed out a strong system over the Rockies would move out into the Plains today and then head to the northeast on Thursday.   With most of these Spring systems comes the threat for severe weather.  SPC increased that risk for today, weakens it for Thursday and increases it again for Friday.

The satellite and water vapor (see arrow) views have a classic comma shape to this system indicative of lots of energy.

There are currently lots of lightning strikes with the heaviest storms heading into north Louisiana & Arkansas right where the Tornado Watch is in effect.

Temperatures are much cooler and drier behind the cold front, but we won't see much of a temperature drop, rather a drop in humidity (lower dew points).  So our concerns don't appear to be widespread severe weather, but how much rainfall is coming?   As I mentioned yesterday, that depends on the front stalling over us.

Totals with the front late tonight should be only 1-2" or less, but another round of storms could return on Friday.   The colors on the rainfall map are 7 day totals.  Red indicates 3-4" with the orange 4-6".

Based on those totals, our 7 day has rounds of storms possible for the next 3 days.   It will not rain all the time and hopefully we don't see any "training effect" develop.  In the meantime,

Strong south winds will keep temperatures in the 70s tonight and it will be very humid.  Our best rain chances will comes between 2-6 AM.  Remember to have you FOX 8 Weather App set up with the alerts turned on before you go to bed.   If any warnings are issued, the App will send that to your cell phone.   Our severe weather chances are low, but they are not zero.  I suggest you watch David at 9 or 10 PM before you go to bed.  Stay tuned!
