Where Have All The Birds & Bees Gone?

On such a beautiful day with really nothing going on, I was enjoying the view of my flowers in my backyard.  What I noticed is, despite the jasmine lining my fences in full bloom, there was not one honey bee around.  In addition, looking at my 16 year old grapefruit tree, I could find only 5 fruit when each year I get 150-200 .  No bees probably is the reason for no pollination.   Also, I have seen only a cardinal & a blue jay at my bird feeders with no other species. No sparrows, no finches, no nothing.   Are any of you seeing the same in your yards?

Yesterday's cold front has sweep away all the low level moisture leaving clear skies and diminishing winds.  In fact, there are no clouds near Louisiana.

The nearest clouds over the Gulf are all that's left of the cold front.  The West coast has turned cloudy and rainy and our next system will slowly work towards us for later in the week.

The ridge of high pressure will shift to our east tomorrow and by Tuesday some clouds and humidity/low level moisture will return.  The next rain chance should arrive until Thursday or Friday and that will depend on the movement of the western system.

A few spots could top 80 this afternoon with most of this week 80+.   Finally...

With clear skies, the satellite view reveals lots of muddy water around us.  The muddy water south of us and east of the River is due to the high water flowing through the Mardi Gras cut.   The heavy rainfall across the North Shore yesterday morning has murked up both Lake Maurepas & Pontchartrain.  It'll settle down some over the next 2 days, but more rains could return later this week.  Enjoy what we have now and Monday as this might be the coolest until sometime in October? Stay tuned!
