East-Pac Is Off & Running...

Tropical Storm Andres was named this morning over the Eastern Pacific making this the earliest named storm for that basin in modern history.   In all fairness, this system would not be named without the improved technologies of modern satellites.   It's barely 40 mph and is expected to dissipate within 48 hours.

Back in our part of the world, we're watching a large cloud mass associated with a slow moving cold front.

There is a risk for severe storms today, but SPC weakens/lowers the risk for Monday and Tuesday.

The top graphic is valid for today with the middle for Monday and the bottom valid on Tuesday.

You can see the temperature contrast on either side of the front with 80s & 90s in the warm sector and 40s & 50s behind the front.  Deep level moisture(dew points 70+) have surged into Louisiana creating the potential for heavy rainfall.

The top graphic is the 5 day rainfall potential with widespread 3-5"+ totals likely.    There are some strong storms to our north currently , but I don't see any training effect of storms so far.  Today's brisk south winds will keep pumping the Gulf moisture northward so get ready for a rather wet spell to begin this week.

If models are correct, they sink the frontal boundary down into the Gulf drying us out for the end of the week.  Finally...
Next week (on the 15th) will be the 6th anniversary of my Mama's passing.  She didn't have much quality of life at the end so I prefer to remember Mama as she was in this picture.   I hope most of you took advantage of this Mother's Day to celebrate with the woman who gave you life.  All I can do now is remember Mama.  Stay tuned!
