Too Early/Soon to Start Thinking About Tropics...

We still have a little over 3 weeks to the start of our Hurricane Season, but the Eastern Pacific's seasob starts on May 15th and already they have some action to follow.

It's just a reminder for us that we are heading to that time of the year when we start watching the Tropics again.  For today, we're still enjoying lots of sunshine with only a slight increase in humidity.

Since winds are now back from the south, each day will feel more summer-like as highs approach 90.  A cold front will approach and likely stall just to our north creating a boundary for some heavy rainfall.

SPC is indicating there is a slight (Level 2) risk for severe storms tomorrow over northern Louisiana with the bottom graphic being the 5 day rainfall totals.  Note most of central and north Louisiana might receive 3-5"+ with 2-3" across the North Shore

As the cold front gets closer, low clouds from the Gulf will combine with the clouds along the front so we may not see much sunshine for Monday through Wednesday.   Mother's Day will be more humid, but still dry before we go into an unsettled pattern next week.  If models are correct, the stalled front will start to push south as a cold front bringing back another stretch of good feel air late next week.

Finally, I remember a stalled front back on May 8-9, 1995 that produced our greatest flood (outside hurricanes) ever.

10-20" fell first on the South Shore before the boundary shifted to the North Shore on the 9th dropping similar totals.  This is an anniversary we do not celebrate, unlike Mother's Day.  I hope many of you will be with your Mother tomorrow.   For a lot of us, all we can do is remember Mama since they have passed on.  Go out an celebrate the Lady who gave you life.  Stay tuned!
