So Good, Sometimes You Have To Brag...

We all know what's coming to south Louisiana & Mississippi in a week or two or three...90+ degree heat with humidity to match.  So when we are enjoying the best weather in the country, one needs to brag about it, toot your own horn!

Northerly winds with temps in the 70s & clear skies are making for really good feel air across most of the Gulf South.  Now compare that to what other parts of the country are doing with some showers and temps in the 40s & 50s.  Ugly!

It doesn't mean it's totally ugly as the bottom picture taken by my son Ryan in Missoula shows.  Some sun peaked through the cloud cover creating a rainbow over the Clark Fork River.

So the next question is...how long will this good feel weather hang around?  The top satellite view shows the old front way down in the Gulf so I think Saturday should stay mostly sunny with only some thin high clouds flowing in from the west.  Dew points remain in the 40s & 50s, but that will change once the south winds return on Sunday.   All signs point to a rainy period arriving for the start of next week.

The top graphic has the Storm Prediction Center bringing a level 2 (slight) severe risk to north Louisiana on Sunday with the potential for 3-5" of rainfall during the next couple of days.

So next week will be a summer preview of heat, humidity & T-Storms.  However, if models are correct, another cold front could sneak through on Thursday bringing back the good feel air into next weekend.
Finally, I always like to look for different features on satellite pictures.  With totally clear skies today, I zoomed in to south LA/MS and took off the state map lines.  What you see is a lot of muddy waters around left over from last week's heavy rainfall.  What was concerning about our fishing trip last week was the absence of speckle trout.   We only caught 6 on Monday and none on Tuesday before the storms arrived.  Catfish?  I caught 11 by myself using artificial bait, but only 2 trout.    Typically we catch many trout but have to throwback many as undersized.  Not this trip.  There were few small trout.  Was it the winds? (20-25+), the muddy waters? the lower salinity? Or a combination of all three?  Whatever, with more rain coming next week, fishing is not likely to improve for awhile.  Stay tuned!
