Another Name Gone, 2 More To Go...

Yesterday I mentioned we could have 3 named storms before the end of this week.   NHC named Tropical Storm Bill despite his circulation being way off the East coast and heading into cooler waters.  He will be downgraded later this evening, another wasted name in the 2021 list.   So where will Claudette and Danny show up.   NHC is highlighting an area off of Africa now designating it as Invest 93L.  The other possibility is over the Southern Gulf,  I've highlighted 4 areas with another swirl following behind Bill's circulation off the Carolinas.

As we focus on the southern Gulf, one swirl is right along the Mexican coast with another just west of the Yucatan.   NHC's discussion says little development is expected for another 1-2 days, but something should happen by Thursday as the main models indicate.

The top graphic is the GFS model valid for Saturday morning showing a weak low/Trop. Depression near Houston.  The next is the Euro with the weak system slightly farther to the south with the next model being the Canadian indicating no closed low, just an open wave with tropical moisture surging into Louisiana.  The bottom is all the Spaghetti plots with most keeping the disturbance down over Mexico.  If you go by the 7 day rainfall totals, you disregard the Spaghetti plots and favor the main global models.

Currently, all the deep moisture is trapped down over the southern Gulf and will not reach us until Friday at the soonest.  There is a boundary along the sea breeze stretching from Houston to Florida.

On the surface weather map is a stalled weak frontal boundary to our Northeast that mainly divides drier air from the muggies over us.   Look for little change until the weekend when clouds and showers will keep us less hot.

And finally, I was at the national Hurricane Conference this morning where I ran into an old colleague of mine at FOX 8.   Chris Franklin was my high school intern back in the late 90s and was hired as the morning meteorologist at Ch. 8 after graduating from college.  He now is the main weathercaster on Ch. 4.   Very proud to have been his mentor.

Tomorrow I'll talk about some of my notes I took today.     The main emphasis was on the 2020 season, which as we know was by far the most active ever.   I do have some nuggets to reveal for you so stay tuned!
