Eastern Atlantic Getting Ready To Pop?

Several of you thought my headline yesterday was too much hype.  Well, I'll say it again, with the MJO heading into the favorable (rising air) phase in our part of the world, there should be an uptick (explosion?) in tropical activity during the next 5-10 days.   Since we have been totally shut down since Elsa, we're likely to see 3-4 named storms during the last 3 weeks of August.

NHC now has 3 areas highlighted out in the Atlantic with a wave still over Africa having the greater potential for development.  This is the typical area (MDR Main Development Region) we watch as we head into August & September.  Fortunately, we will have a long time to follow whatever develops.

Closer to home, there is an upper low over the central Caribbean south of Cuba with a frontal boundary now down across the northern Gulf.  So far there is no indication of any surface spin ups.

An August cold front has pushed through us bringing welcomed drier air into the Gulf South.  The front is hard to find looking at temperatures, but you can see the lower dew points (50s & 60s) just to our north.  You'll notice a different feel to the air tomorrow morning.  It'll only last a day or 2 so get out and enjoy.

It is a rare day in August when we find no rain over our state. A T-Storm is south of Cocodrie and along the Florida beaches.

This front will give us a preview of what's coming later next month.  Finally, yesterday was another deadly day for Louisiana as 44 more died (after Monday's 59) due to COVID 19.  Thanks to those who decided to go get vaccinated, but it will take many more making that choice to get this virus under control.  Those choosing not to get vaccinated allow the virus to keep spreading.  I pray that common sense will come to those who don't fear death.  Stay tuned!
