Near Record Heat Will End With Late Week Cold Front...

Back in 1980 (before global warming), it reached 91 degrees on Oct. 11th at MSY, a record that still stands 41 years later.   The next 4 days will flirt with record highs before our next cold front arrives Friday night.

This will not be a super cold front, but rather just one that gets us back closer to our mid October "normal Temps".   It'll be much like the one earlier this month.  The real cold is still out west where the upper level trough is located.

Snow is falling at the higher elevations as skiers start licking their chops.  It's hard to find the front near us as it has stalled out and will retreat northward tomorrow.  We're back in the 70+ dew points so the summer like feel is back.  We'll finally see relief by this weekend.

In the Tropics, the only activity is far away from us.    The system off the Carolina coast never developed so we're still waiting on Wanda.  Typically I'd have the "Fat Lady" singing by now, but I'm gonna wait until we get some real cold fronts towards the end of this month.  Water temps are still very warm and the GFS tries to form a weak kow over the western Gulf in the 12-14 day time frame.

I'm pretty certain we're done with tropical threats, but I'll wait another week before declaring "the party is over".  Stay tuned!
