Can't Get Cold Air Until Upper Pattern Changes...

Many of you are asking when will we get cold and stay cold?   The simple answer is when the dip in the jet stream, now along the West Coast, shifts to an East Coast upper trough.   That is not happening during the next 7-10 days.

The top graphic is the current satellite view with a closed low off the coast west of the Baja with two minor dips, one over the Rockies and a stronger dip along the East coast.    That shows up better in the middle graphic.  The bottom pic is valid for next Wednesday still showing the upper dip is over the West coast.  That means no super cold air is coming our way.

After some morning showers, a weak cold front brought in some drier air this afternoon, but you can see 70s and 80s over south Texas that will be returning here later this week.

A strong cold front will bring some midday showers on Saturday with a brief cooldown for Sunday & Monday.  But we quickly warm up for the middle to end of next week.

Skies have cleared so the question for later tonight is will fog return?  Dew points were 60+ yesterday and today they are in the 40s & 50s.  I hope that means morning fog will be less widespread and dense in the morning.  As south winds return tomorrow, expect those 60+ dew points to follow for Friday & Saturday.  I want more cold air soon just to help me get rid of my lingering allergies that have me with a runny nose & post nasal drip.  Yuk!  Stay tuned!
