There's plenty of clod air across the northern states & NE, but hwen St. Louis is 70+ in December, you know something isn't right. What isn't right is the persistent upper trough off the west coast that has kept much of the nation east of the Rockies way above normal.
There is good news in this pattern as it's bringing much needed rain and snows to the West putting a big dent into their long drought.
With the surface high now off the East coast, southerly winds flowing along the backside is bringing warmth & low level moisture northward. Not the 69+ dew points in Texas. We'll have a different feel to the air this weekend that won't make us feel like Christmas.
Satellite views show the clouds streaming in from the Gulf and the strong south winds will keep temperatures up above 60 for the next few days. Where's the cold?
The coldest air (40-45 below) in the world is up over Alaska. Models are hinting that a colder pattern is coming here...but not until January! Enjoy your Christmas with family and my heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones this past year. That first Christmas without them is the hardest. Let's pray for those who carry that cross this Christmas. Stay tuned!
