Last Week In December Will be One To Remember...

Back on this date in 1989, the low at MSY dropped to 11 degrees making this the coldest day on record.  Not happening this year as we are easily going to have our warmest December ever at MSY (records go back to 1946).

In fact, our night time lows will be way above our normal/average daily highs.  Why?  The bottom satellite view shows the same pattern for most of this month with an upper trough off the West coast with an upper ridge over the southern states.

This pattern is bringing much needed rain & snow to the drought stricken areas and making skiers very happy.   Besides the West Coast, only the northern states over to New England are feeling like Winter.

There's plenty of super cold (35-40 below) air over Canada, but until the upper pattern changes, none of it is coming our way.

You can see the warmth flowing northward on the backside of the surface high as Texas is in the 70s.  As southerly winds bring back the Gulf moisture, we'll see more clouds and that Summer feel return.

I've enjoyed the past few chilly, but dry days.  I am not looking forward to my allergies kicking in again as the humidity increases with the temperatures.  Models are hinting that a colder pattern will set up for January.   Since we have been very warm, don't be surprised to see January bring us some freezes, dare I say snow?    Just wanted to see who was paying attention!   Stay tuned!
