Weekend Cold Blast Will Be Sharp But Brief...

Today was as good as it gets for a February afternoon in south LA/MS.  All day clear skies warmed temps to near 70 after a chilly start.  The upper pattern continues to have a modest trough over the eastern U.S. that keeps the NE/Great Lakes chilly with the south mild to warm.

Bruce Katz showed an upper air chart that brings down our next cold blast for Sunday, but lifts out the trough by late Monday.

That will keep the real super cold air (30-35 below) up in Canada from coming our way.

Our next front will arrive Saturday afternoon requiring heavy coats for Saturday night through Monday midday.  The warm up next week will have us 70+ for Wednesday & Thursday before another cold blast arrives on Friday.

After today's clear skies, Saturday will see way more clouds with a slight chance for rain with the front.  All the arrows point out fires from Texas into Mississippi.

With south winds back, look for over night lows to be much milder, but NWS indicates dense fog could develop before dawn.  We'll have to check to see if we need to protect our plants for Sunday & Monday mornings.  Stay tuned!
