As you can see, it is a significant cool down, but even the North Shore stays well above freezing. There's plenty of cold air across northern Canada, but all of Alaska is now above zero.
That cold air will be diving down over the western states as we're just going to be clipped by it. Still, jackets and sweaters will again be required. We're not done with cold air.
There's a band of clouds along the boundary between Winter temps & those more Spring-like. 80s covered most of Kansas with 70s across most of the southern states.
As the surface high shifts to our east tomorrow, a southerly flow will develop over the western Gulf bringing back the muggies for this weekend. You'll notice a difference feel to the air.
Satellite pictures indicate some high, thin clouds streaking our way and they will make for filtered sunshine on Thursday. Temperatures will fall from the 70s into the 50s by 10 PM. Finally...
The weekly drought monitor comes out tomorrow and I expect we'll see much of Louisiana in worsening drought conditions. I grabbed these two satellite views of MS/AL/GA showing the numerous smoke plumes. Farther to the west, the same smoke plume signatures can be seen in Oklahoma & Arkansas. We need rain and it appears we'll have to wait until after this weekend. Be fire aware until then. Stay tuned!
