Widespread Wednesday Storms...

We saw a few brief showers today along with a clap or two of thunder.  That will change this evening and again during the day on Wednesday as fast moving upper disturbances rotate around a western trough creating the potential for severe storms from the Gulf coast up into Iowa & Illinois.

SPC's main severe risk (level 4) today is up across iowa and that shifts and expands to the SE tomorrow with parts of the North Shore under level 3 while the South Shore is under level 2.  Bottom line, from tonight through early Thursday morning we need to pay attention for the POTENTIAL for severe storms.  Here's the timing from Bruce at 5 PM.

There is likely to be several periods of heavy rainfall with the North Shore expected to receive 2-3"+ and 1-2"+ on the South Shore.

As Bruce pointed out, IF training occurs, some spots north could see 4-5"+.  In the short term, some heavy storms are approaching from the west.

If you're going out tonight, bring along the rain gear.  Tomorrow we'll be in the warm air sector with plenty of low level moisture available.

As you can see, 80s & 90s are ahead of the front with a blizzard north across much of North Dakota.

None of that cold air will plunge our way, but a weak front should stagger through Thursday morning bringing slightly drier air.

Again, pay attention this evening for some loud storms & again Wednesday PM into early Thursday for possible severe weather.  Stay tuned!
