Zonal Flow Stalls Front Along Northern Gulf...

This being the Easter Weekend with so many outdoor activities, including Sunday sunrise services, it would be nice to have a forecast that says no rain.  Unfortunately, the upper flow from west to east (called zonal) has stalled a frontal boundary just off our coast that will retreat northward over the weekend.  That boundary will trigger some shower activity along it so where it ends up will be critical.

You can see how the temperature contours align themselves west to east with Winter-like conditions over many of the northern states.  That boundary should reform farther to our north tomorrow and into Saturday keeping us with fairly low rain chances.

The North Shore got into much drier air (lower dew points) today, not as much to the south.  I expect humidity will be back by Friday PM..   There will be many dry hours this weekend, but rain chances won't be zero.

I see no really cooler weather coming into next week.  Today's drought monitor does not include the 2-3"+ rainfall from early this morning.  It was much welcomed on this National Gardener's Day.

We'll begin tonight with clear skies north of lake P. with some clouds south.  Winds have become light & variable, but should return southerly during the day on Saturday.  Finally,

There is an "atmospheric river" of moisture streaming into northern California.  This is much needed rainfall, even if it messes up weekend outdoor plans.  Enjoy your weekend & stay tuned!
