AM Storms Drench N-Shore, PM Storms Flood South Shore...

An upper disturbance triggered heavy rainfall before dawn on the North Shore with widespread rain totals 2-4" with some amount exceeding 4-7".  Lingering cloud cover kept any new storms from bubbling up, but once the sun popped back out, new storms have fired up over the South Shore & along the Mississippi Gulf coast.  They are slow movers dumping heavy rainfall with lots of lightning and thunder.

The top view was at 8:30 AM with the middle from 2 PM.  The bottom pic is from 3:30 showing this morning's storms now weakening over Houston.   Right now the South Shore is rocking.

So what is going on?   let's look at the big picture.  The upper heat dome has shifted to the west and weakened with the main jet stream over the northern tier of states.  We have many weak upper disturbances drifting east to west over the Gulf coast.

The more numerous clouds and storms have knocked down the heat wave somewhat.   I don't see any major change coming through this weekend and hopefully these daily showers will continue.  If you get lucky, the clouds & showers will keep things less hot.

Finally, I find it very amazing that there are currently zero named storms World-wide.

The arrow points out the remains of Estelle in the eastern Pacific, but the Indian Ocean, western Pacific & tropical Atlantic have nothing.  There are several clusters that could turn into something.

One is heading into central America while the other is north of the Dominican Republic.  No model develops anything in our part of the World for the rest of July.  Remember the "expert forecasts" for the 2022 hurricane season?   It's gonna really have to get active to reach those 18-22 numbers predicted.  Not complaining, but something is different this year compared to last.   Stay tuned!
