Summer Fishing Is Like T-Storms, Very, Very Spotty...

I hadn't been fishing in 3 months & when Captain Hylton calls, the Little Fella 1st mate jumps at the opportunity.  We knew summer fishing is difficult as inside water temps. approach 90+.  It was no surprise that the most fish we caught were catfish.  However, we did land 4 reds.  The Captain was shut out until he landed 2 really big redfish, one released since it was 30"+.

The middle pic has Hylton following the fish as it circled the boat 3-4 times.   He landed it just as the sun was setting making for some gorgeous views.

But much like the weather in the summer, fishing was spotty.  Only thing different today was the location of the storms.  Yesterday's gully washer was centered over Gentilly/N.O. East with Metairie & Kenner getting very little.  Look at who's getting wet today.

The clouds and rain have brought a few folks some cooling relief.   I grabbed this graphic off The Weather Channel.

Dallas has now gone 47 days without rain.  At least some showers/storms are nearby helping them to be less hot.

The upper heat dome has drifted farther to the west, but it will drift back eastward as we head towards the weekend.  That will chase any rain around Dallas away.  Until the upper high shifts back nearer us, we should see more storms around on Friday.

Still no indications that the Tropics in our part of the world will turn on.  There is a weak low level low out in the Atlantic, but Saharan dust is not allowing any T-Storms to develop.

We all know the dust usually decreases once into August as the winds off of Africa weaken.

One week from today, the International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo kicks off with Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee-Sheng presiding as this year's President.  I'm told the trout are biting along the beaches.  Hope you can come down & join me next week as I try to land da big one.  Stay tuned!
