Finally Danielle Forms Way Out in Atlantic...

It took 60 days since our last storm (Colin), but satellite views clearly indicate Tropical Storm Danielle has formed in the central Atlantic.   Now before you say..."another wasted name", Danielle merits being upgraded.  In fact, models make it this season's first hurricane during the next few days.   Take a look at her structure.

The other 2 green circles are areas NHC still thinks there could be some development.  The system off Africa will not since it's moving over cooler waters, while the western circle (Invest 91 L) is more interesting.

The GFS model makes this Tropical Storm Earl, but curves him well east of the U.S.  The Euro does not increase 91 L, at least right away.  The longer it stays weak, the more likely it continues to go west.  There still is the possibility for East coast impacts sometime NEXT week so Florida's east coast through the Carolinas need to pay attention.

The streak between storms is over and we end up as # 2 on the list.  What is not over is our streak of no tropical threats in the Caribbean or Gulf.  We will get through Labor Day weekend and perhaps another 2 weeks with nothing to worry about.

We actually had a wedge of drier air/lower dew points move in today.  Without clouds and showers, temps soared back well into the 90s.  Look for that to slowly change as we head into the weekend.

The surface weather map has that weak frontal boundary sagging into the Gulf with lots of nice weather over much of the eastern states.  Note the dew points in the 60s over us.

We all want to know when will a real front come down to us.  Well, we are seeing fronts diving down into the northern states out of Canada.  The really chilly air still lags pretty far into central Canada and my gut tells me we'll need to wait until after Sept. 20th before that 1st real front arrives.

Until the northern states begin to cool down, I won't get too excited.  But we all know how this works.  In its orbit around the sun, the tilt of the axis of the Earth reaches neutral (equal day/night) around Sept. 21st.  After that the northern hemisphere receives less daylight and longer nights...translation we get cooler.  It's coming Gang.  Just have to be patient.  Stay tuned!
