There are 4 areas of activity over the Atlantic, but I begin with Kay finally bringing cooling relief to southern California & the SW. Some much needed rain is falling, but it won't work too far northward since the track turns out to sea. In the Atlantic,. 2 areas are so far out we need not bother with them.
Danielle is heading towards Portugal & Spain while Earl is by passing Bermuda. He was expected to continue strengthening, but you can see the color IR still does not have that classic donut look. Closer to home, the moisture boundary has sunk farther down over the Gulf.
A well advertized upper low has settled over south Louisiana and that should keep the heaviest rainfall well east of us for the rest of this week. Zack Fradella sent me his graphic that clearly shows how less active we are this year compared to last.
Something is preventing weak swirls from exploding into strong tropical systems like in 2021. Could be the Saharan dust layer, or the persistent TUTT lows, or below average water temps in the MDR? Don't care. Just keep it going for another 3 weeks.as cold fronts should start coming down.
Speaking of cold fronts, models are suggesting one will arrive late Monday into Tuesday bringing us much drier air. It won't be much cooler except in the over night lows.
In the short term, we have an old frontal boundary over south Louisiana with an upper low parked over us. This should keep our daily rain chances around through Sunday.
Some of these storms bring drenching rains with lots of lightning along with cooling relief.
I think we all will agree it's still hot, but it's not like the brutal Summer heat like back in June. Note the 60s showing up on the North Shore for next week. It's coming Gang.
I grabbed this from Bruce Katz's program at 4 PM. The light at the end of the tunnel is called FALL! Stay tuned!

As long as the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a gorilla with a flashlight...😏
