Drought Conditions Worsen Including South Louisiana...

The dryness across the U.S. is not confined to one small area.  Rather only the East Coast has seen average to above average precipitation.  Most of the nation has severe to extreme drought conditions and it will take many, many days of soaking rainfall to improve the situation.  Look at the latest Drought Monitor maps out today.

I grabbed graphics from Bruce Katz's 4 PM program and it's no wonder we're in drought.  Since January first our deficit is nearly 12"!   We need some rain, nah, we need lots of rain and the best chances in months are coming Friday night into early Saturday.

A potent upper low near the 4 corners should trigger widespread storms across Texas Friday morning.  The question is...how much of that holds together and reaches us?  Remember, when in drought, leave it out.  The upper low will weaken as it lifts to our north and I'm not sold that it will bring us a lot of rain.

As the surface high drifts off the East coast, our winds return from the Gulf.  However, it will take a while for deep level moisture to develop as dew points are still in the 40s & 50s.  Only south Texas see 60+ dew points.   Friday should be dry here until well after dark with the best rain chances coming after 9 PM into before noon on Saturday.

Halloween looks dry as the front next week doesn't arrive until late Tuesday night.  I've gone ahead and watered my potted plants just in case our rain chances fizzle.  Finally...

NHC is still looking for Lisa & Martin to form along a boundary well east of the U.S.   Stay tuned!
