Cold Retreats for a Couple of Weeks...He-Shed Saves Most Plants...

Our brutally cold (for us!) 4 day freezing stretch is gone as milder air is streaming over most of the country.  I spent this morning returning my potted plants back to their usual spots in my yard.  Unfortunately, the yard doesn't quite look the same.

The top view is before the freeze with the rest from this morning.  You can see the green & flowering ones were safe in my He-Shed while the others not so lucky.

I think my hibiscus will re-sprout, but the top has it flowering before the freeze with the middle being the cut back version.  Bubba (my Crown of Thorn, bottom) was inside my shed, but you can see he looks kinda whacked on top.  I may have to do some serious pruning.

Satellite loops clearly show why a big warm up is coming as a gush of milder Pacific air sweeps in over the West Coast.  I loved to show satellite loops, but sadly, our current weathercasters rarely do except maybe the water vapor.  Instead, they take the easy way out using computer maps, which are colorful, but often confusing.  By showing the satellite & radar loops, I find it much easier to understand, and I have a scientific background!

I've drawn the upper flow over the satellite view indicating why the cold is retreating and new Canadian cold can't come southward.

Denver was up in the 60s today and we'll bounce to near 70 tomorrow.  Since the next upper trough sets up to our west, I don't see another cold front here until late next week.  That will keeps our highs way above normal (70+).  The big issue will be nightly dense fog beginning as soon as Thursday night.

No signs of low level return flow yet.

For New Year Eve, it should be dry, but low clouds & fog could be an issue for fireworks.  Finally...

Hard to believe they even published it since they are so biased towards man made climate change.  Remember, most researchers push the motto climate change is causing more intense & frequent hurricanes (long term data doesn't support that) & tornadoes, more frequent droughts & floods etc.  here's a peer reviewed article that says whoa, wait a minute.  The data doesn't support your claims.  That to me is refreshing.  That is how science to supposed to work.  Follow the data even when it doesn't support the many researchers earning their living plugging Global Warming.  Stay tuned!
