As usual, I focus on what's closer to us and NHC has highlighted an area over the Gulf for possible development NEXT week.
The middle satellite view has an upper low south of eastern Cuba with a slug of tropical moisture on the NE side. Clusters of T-Storms across Florida and along the East coast are moving to the NE away from us. Actually, it's the forecasted movement of Major Hurricane Hilary that will impact the weather over the Desert SW (even So. Cal,) & eventually us. Remember that long lasting Upper Heat Dome? It's not going away. Let me explain.
As Major Hurricane Hilary churns northward, it will force the upper heat dome, that briefly shifted to our west, back over us for this weekend and into next week. What does that mean? Two things.
We're not done with the triple digit heat, but more importantly, that heat dome will block/protect us from any Tropical development next week. Even if Emily were to develop over the Gulf, it can't head northward into that Heat Dome. In fact, most tropical moisture will head towards the Texas coast and not here. I suspect the FOX 8 40% chance for rain next week to be very generous.
So instead of whining about this brutal heat, let's be grateful that it appears we will have no Tropical threats for the next 10-14 days affecting the northern Gulf. That Heat Dome is our protector.
We do have the chance to be in the top five driest summers. Certainly no rain around today and none expected through the weekend. Keep watering those plants & lawns Gang. As the sun angle keeps getting lower each day and the nights get longer and the days shorter, I promise relief is only weeks away. Stay tuned!
