When In Drought, Leave It Out...

During my 38 years as Chief Meteorologist at Ch. 8, I hired many very good meteorologists who went on to bigger & better paying jobs.  One such person was Jeff Baskin who came up with the saying, "When in Drought, leave it out".  Translation, even though models might be indicating higher rain chances, it's better to downplay the rain chances when you're stuck in a dry pattern.  More often that not, that strategy worked for me.  I must say, I am encouraged by some storms getting closer to us.

The nose of the upper ridge is still there, but look at the cool down north of the frontal boundary.  Unfortunately, computer guidance is not breaking down the ridge over us as Zack Fradella showed us this morning on FOX 8.

Still, just to see storms get closer is encouraging.  But remember, WHEN IN DROUGHT, LEAVE IT (rain chances) OUT.

I know we're all tired of the  summer heat, but remember October is les than 8 weeks away!

As we approach the heart of the Hurricane Season, the tropical Atlantic, Caribbean & Gulf are quiet.  There are several waves coming off of Africa, but the Saharan dust is still apparent on Satellite views.

No model is showing any development for the next 7-10 days.  That gets us to August 15th, historically SHOWTIME for tropical activity.  Stay tuned!
