Cold Is Coming, Snow & Rain Falling Too.

The change in seasons is happening with Winter-like conditions over the northern Rockies and some welcomed rains for the Central Plains to Great Lakes. Freezing temperatures cover many states with the first real snowstorm making for difficult travel conditions.

Now for that cold come our way, we need a change in the current upper pattern.  That will happen by early next week.

I've drawn the current pattern on the satellite view with the next three graphics showing how that upper high over the Southeast will give way to an East Coast trough.  The 7 day details the coming chill

We go from the 80s down to the 30s across the North Shore in a matter of days.  Since our bodies will have little time to adjust,  you'll need the heavy coats, especially if we have brisk winds.

in the short term, we still have summer-like weather into early next week along with high humidity. Note the 70+ dew points are back .

It may not be a lot, but some welcomed rains are falling from Michigan to Texas.  We need many weeks of repeated rainfall to get the Mississippi River levels back up to normal.  Finally,

The remains of Tammy are churning out near Bermuda 7 the GFS tries to form another storm over the Western Caribbean in the 10-12 day time frame.  We need not worry about a late season storm as the water temps. over the northern Gulf have cooled into the 70s, plus the heat content across all of the Gulf is much lower.  You can see the Caribbean still is plenty warm for a November storm but westerly winds would keep any threat away from us.  I will be with friends the next couple of days so I may not post again until next week, unless the weather gets exciting.   Get the coats ready!
