Satellite views have many breaks over southern LA/MS allowing temps to soar into the 70s. Our rain threat won't arrive until after dark on Saturday as the main upper energy is moving on shore over southern California.
Besides the California/Arizona rainfall, there really are no major winter storms on this busy travel weekend. Computer guidance suggests the upper pattern will change as we get into next week.
The top graphic is from this morning with the upper trough over the West. The 2nd view is valid for Wednesday morning with the next valid for Friday AM. The bottom is valid for New Year's Eve. Can you see the shift? Our upper pattern goes from SW (Wet, Mild) to west (drier) and then NW (colder). The next 3 days could easily be 70+, especially if the sun breaks out for Christmas Day PM.
A word of caution for all the gardeners out there. Next weekend (Friday & Saturday) could have a significant freeze threat for both sides of the Lake. Need to pay attention as we get closer.
In the short term, expect a different feel to the air as low level moisture increases. Dew points that were in the 30s & 40s here will approach 70 by Sunday. West winds behind the front on Monday should dry us out some, but the front could stall and linger into Tuesday & Wednesday before the next cold surge blows through Thursday. Sorry we won't have the "Christmas feel" this year. Finally, Has anyone given any thoughts on how to revive the Saints? Saw Drew Brees in Mrs. Benson's suite at the game in L.A. Why not hire Drew as the next G.M. (ala John Elway in Denver) and give him total control like John Lynch has in San Francisco? I remember what coach Mora once said about the fans. "They think they know, but they don't know & they'll never know". Totally understand Jim. I just think we need to clean house and start anew like the 49ers have done. I'm just a Who Dat fan who doesn't accept losing.
