One Day Warm Up Before Freezes Come Back For Weekend...

As expected today, morning lows were several degrees lower than yesterday's, EXCEPT at MSY where it was warmer.  How can that be?  Because MSY is located on Lake Pontchartrain?  No, that's Lakefront Airport (NEW) which reached 26.for their low.  MSY reported their low was also 26.   But how could that be?  (Ignore the 40 at Galliano as that gage is broken)   Belle Chasse and Houma (away from the Lake) were 21 with 19 at Gonzales.

So let's look at locations.  NEW is on Lake P. while MSY is SOUTH of I-10.  Look at my reading in Metairie NORTH of I-10 near Bonnabel & the interstate.

I'm pretty sure my 23 is correct as my flowing bird bath froze solid.  FOX 8 was down to at least 24 so what's up with MSY?  It's the official reading for New Orleans and always (since the new terminal with it's tarmac) reads 2-3 degrees warmer.  I believe NWS needs to move the siting away from all the new concrete to give MSY a more representative reading for our city.  But that costs $$$ and the current agenda wants everything to be warmer.  To me it's common sense.  But back to what's coming.

The Polar Vortex rotating over Hudson Bay is getting ready to sent another lobe/spoke down into the lower 48.  The cold surface high is finally shifting to our east and a brief warm up is coming for tomorrow ahead of a fast moving upper system racing out of the Rockies.

West Texas is 60+ and we'll see a rapid rise beginning later tonight as low clouds return off the Gulf.  Note how low the dew points are which should limit any shower activity ahead of the next front. Zack Fradella gave us the timing of that front on his morning programs.

So if you uncover any plants of bring them out of your warming shed, know they'll need to be right back in for Friday through Sunday.  I'm leaving everything in place or covered.

I'd be nervous for tonight if we didn't have any clouds coming in.  They're already onshore at Grand isle & Pt. Fourchon.

The real warming comes next week when we jump into the 60s & 70s.  Finally,

The satellite view confirmed the snow cover across northern Louisiana with the heaviest from Memphis to Paducah.  For the first time in almost 2 years, the snow covered D.C, Philly into NYC.   I grabbed the bottom graphic off The Weather Channel which shows the next snowstorm will be farther to the north.  Stay tuned!
