Ahoy Mates, One Week Till Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo, Tropics Quiet !!!

The excitement is beginning to build on Grand Isle as their Island Strong Music Fest is this weekend followed by our International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo next weekend.  next week's fishing rodeo begins on Thursday (July 25th) and will end with the awards ceremony Saturday (July 27th) night.  You can fish one day, all 3 days, from the shore or in a boat.  However, IF you want to win one of the many trophies (there are inshore or offshore divisions), you have to REGISTER.  You can do that on-line at tarponrodeo.org.  Once again, the grand prize will be $10,000 with a $500 prize chosen both Thursday & Friday nights.  Don't own a boat?  Don't like to fish? Doesn't matter.  You can win an entry for the grand prize by purchasing a $50 registration and your name will go into the hopper.

So what are you waiting for?  Reading from Montana, North Carolina or Kentucky?  Doesn't matter. Register at tarponrodeo.org and you could win an opportunity to win $10K.  Get going, Gang!

One of Brenda's most recent paintings is a Koi fish.  Kinda looks like a catfish and it gets me inspired for next weekend's Rodeo!  If you are inspired by Brenda's paintings, go to Instagram@breckbrenda or contact her at brendabreck@gmail.com.  The Tropics show zero signs of life over the Atlantic Basin and hopefully the Rodeo will have great weather? I begin with the Water Vapor with the upper air flow.

Unless we have a tropical disturbance, our daily summer showers occur due to daytime heating, surface boundaries or upper air disturbances.  the top view has an upper low east of Florida with another down to our SW over the Gulf.  In addition, a weak disturbance is sagging to the SE over Oklahoma.

I'm hard pressed to find the temperature contrasts behind the surface front, but notice the lower dew points (drier air) farther north.  That's where you want to be today for relief from the summer heat & humidity.

Alas, that air is NOT coming our way until late September.  For this weekend, we're stuck with this Gulf upper low creating an area of lift over us.

Unlike last Summer's Heat Dome, this year we're seeing way more rain which makes it less hot.  In fact, it feels almost nice out right now!

We are entering, historically, what is the hottest part of the year.  That won't happen this weekend with the current upper pattern.  The Heat Dome could return in August, but by then we will be awaiting those early season cool fronts of September.  Finally, today was a time to say goodbye to a dear friend.

I met John Hope back in 1980 when he was an officer with the Krewe of Centurions.  He wanted me to be the Grand Marshal in their parade.  IF I said yes, he offered to take me fishing with his buddy, the late Luke (Captain Luke) Gennaro.  The rest is history as I have been hooked on fishing ever since.  If you ever met John, he made you feel better.  Coach J.T. Curtis gave a wonderful, inspiring message about the life of John, and what a life he enjoyed.  Coach challenged us to honor John by living his life of serving others.  Well said Coach.  Marsha & his three daughters will carry on, as will I, knowing we are all so lucky to have experienced the Life of Hope.  RIP my friend.  Stay tuned!
