Mushrooms, Mushrooms, Mushrooms, But Not Portobello!

If you went by the official rain gauge out at the airport (MSY) in Kenner, you would think we haven't been that wet this month.  However, like every typical southern Summer, tropical downpours are very spotty and just one or two miles of location can make for huge differences in rainfall amounts.  For instance, I am about 6-7 miles east of the airport and my July monthly total is already 9.08".  How do I know we've been super wet?  By looking out at my yard each day.  Almost like magic, mushrooms erupt overnight.  Not just one or two, but multiple rows.  I've seen the same all around my neighborhood.  Too bad we can't eat them!

One thing I'm not doing much so far this summer is water my lawn!  Still have to water my many potted plants daily, but this summer is way wetter than last year.so far.  Today's storms have been mainly west of us resulting in temps back in the mid to upper 90s.

Will the storms pop over us tomorrow instead of western Louisiana?  Hey, it's summertime and it will rain somewhere.  Hard to say where the where will be!  What's happened to the blocking upper heat dome from earlier back in June?

It was centered over the West but has shifted more over the Rockies & Plains.  The record heat for many western states is over for now.

You can see the lack of fronts on the surface map as tropical air as always covers the Gulf South, but look how the 70+ dew points extend up into Iowa and Wisconsin.  They feel just as hot as us!  Don't look for any major cooling relief here until late this week.

That's when an upper trough could slide over us increasing our clouds & rain chances resulting in less hot temps.  Over the Tropics, nothing is happening, except down over the southern Gulf.

There is what appears to be a mid level swirl drifting towards Mexico.  As you can see, it lacks any T-Storms & NHC doesn't even mention it in their TWO (Tropical Weather Outlook).  What is really stunning is the absence of any named storm globally for the umpteenth day.  I know, the Alarmists keep saying August & September are coming, but why nothing Worldwide?   Curious minds would like to know.  Stay tuned!
