Stuck On Wet, But Changes Coming As Heat Dome Shifts To East

I have been mentioning several times how different our Summer has been compared to last year.  Remember, we got under an upper air heat Dome that arrived mid June and lasted into early September.  We started that way again this year back in late May, but the Heat Dome redeveloped over the western states and not us.  Instead, we have seen a broad upper trough/weakness from the Rockies to the East Coast that has brought/allowed way more rainfall resulting in temperatures being less hot.  However, look at the change coming.  I begin with the upper air flow drawn on today's satellite view.

The 2nd graphic is today's upper air with the Heat Dome over the West.  But the bottom valid for August 5th has the Heat Dome expanding back over the East.  Now before you begin whining about it begin "too hot", remember what that Heat Dome will do.  IF it builds back over us, that would block any Hurricanes into TX/LA?MS and most likely turn them back to the north well to our east.  It's only one (GFS) computer model, so let's not bet the house on it happening yet.  Until the upper pattern changes, we're stuck on wet for the next few days. The axis of the Bermuda High/Atlantic Ridge is parked over the central Gulf making the northern Gulf quite unsettled.

Geez, the really good feeling air is not too far away.  Dew points in the 50s stretches from Kansas to the Northeast.  But all of the Southeast stays in the "soup".  Ugh! The satellite view along the northern Gulf Coast looks like a boiling pot of water.

It appears the clouds & storms align themselves to the upper SW flow.  IF you get caught under a band (training), you can easily pick up 2-3" in an hour.

Get the rain, you receive a break from the heat.  No major changes are on the horizon until the following week.  Thankfully, the Tropics remain dead.

One week from tonight, one of you will be $10,000 richer as I announce your name to conclude the 2024 International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo.  You still have time to register. Go to www.tarponrodeo.org to enter.

So plan on coming done to grand Isle with your sons or daughters and teach them to fish.  It can be a day trip or for the whole weekend.  There are many spot to fish along Highway 1 going to Grand isle or from the beach on Grand Isle.   I'm already getting excited about making someone very happy one week from tonight.  Stay tuned!
