Breck Is Back, Ernesto Batters Bermuda, Another East Coast Trough

I had a lovely 3 days in Atlanta where the highs were around 90 BUT the dew points were in the lower 60s.  That gave the air/heat a different feel.  Can't wait for October!  A salute to our good friends Phyliss & Stanley who were terrific hosts.  Let's see, when I left, our local weathercasters were harping about "dangerous heat".  Nothing has changed so I won't bore you with more heat hype.  It's still August.  A tropical wave was approaching the Islands before I left and it has followed the early predictions from the models and made the turn away from the U.S.  It did soak the Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico, but now he's getting stronger.

The color infrared satellite has an eyewall structure forming around the center and Hurricane Ernesto is taking aim on Bermuda.

NHC earlier had indicated Ernesto would become a Cat. 3 storm, but they have backed that down to a Cat 2.  What surprises me is the lack of other activity over the Tropics, especially since we're in the favorable (rising air) phase of the MJO.

There is a strong wave approaching the Islands, but NHC isn't talking about it...Yet.  probably because no computer model develops anything for the next 7-10 days.   Over us, the upper heat Dome is being spit by another upper trough diving towards the East Coast.

As this trough deepens, it should bring us better rain chances for the next several days.  It might even bring down an early season Fall-like front?!!!

It will take until late weekend into early next week before we see any major relief from this brutal heat.

Until that weak front arrives on Monday, our only relief will be some strong spotty storms.

Today's lucky folks were along the coast this morning and across the North Shore this afternoon.

Of course with summer storms comes the threat for severe weather.  Parts of the North Shore are under a severe T-Storm warning.  My house is at day 17 without rain.  We need those storms to come south!  Good to be back and happy the Tropics are staying quiet (after Ernesto) for the next 7-10 days.  Still time for it to get "hyper-active"!  Stay tuned!
