As cold front keep coming, we shift our attention from Tropical Threats to People, Pets & Plant protection. I am not moving any of my plants into my He-Shed , but if you live north or west of Lake P., you might consider covering/ taking inside the more tender/tropical plants. Our local NWS office has a nice graphic outlining who might be at risk.
There should be no issues on the South Shore as the 60+ degree water temps of Lake Pontchartrain will moderate the chill. One week until the official end of hurricane season, but the last several named storms showed us why the northern Gulf need not worry any longer. Look how those northerly winds have pushed through Florida, into central Cuba and down into the western Caribbean.
So we're back to watching travel weather, which still has problems for both coasts.
Looking first at the West coast finds a huge circulation with many parts. Earlier this week, a low quickly deepened off the coast of OR/WA and NWS called it a "bomb cyclone". It stayed stalled offshore rotating bands of rain and snow at higher elevations. Today finds an "atmospheric river" right over central California creating all kinds of travel delays. That will continue into Sunday. Along the East Coast, the upper low is slowly drifting to the east. It made for a snowy Thursday Night Football in Cleveland.
Fortunately, most temps are above freezing, but travel issues are widespread. Looking ahead through Thanksgiving, I don't see any major super storm anywhere, so getting to Grandma's house Tuesday or Wednesday should not be a problem. Thanksgiving day we will have a system come out of the Rockies bringing our next cold front and rain threat on the holiday. Behind the front we'll be back to sweaters and coats. Ahead of the front, we warm up.
You can see the 70+ temps to our west and for the next 5 days we'll get warmer.
The good feel dry air should hang around until Monday as Satellite views show no return moisture coming northward out of the Gulf.
Dew points remain in the 30s & 40s so we should get out and enjoy a great weekend of Fall weather in the South. Stay tuned!
