Flowers Blooming Signals Southern Springtime

We all know the longer days and higher sun angle means we begin the warm-up towards our 5 months of awful Summer heat.  But before that arrives in mid-May, we often enjoy some really fine weather.  Not too hot yet and some comfy cool nights with lots of dry weather make this my favorite time of the year.  After several Winter freezes, my yard is finally showing signs of life with lots of colorful flowers.  Still have several bare spots to fill, but my garden is shaping up. Remember the Jan. 21st snow?

I'll get some new plants for those bare spots, plus I want to get another Crown of Thorns his mine didn't survive despite being in my He-Shed.  The rest of my potted plants are doing great!

The one main negative about Spring is my allergies.  It's been a struggle trying to see which pill & nose spray works the best  Weather=wise, it's a really nice weekend.

With the surface high now to our east, south winds will begin the process of increasing Gulf moisture.  There is a weak upper disturbance over the Dakotas that might trigger some severe weather on Sunday far to our north.  SPC has a level 2 (Slight) risk from TX eastward.

They weaken that threat down to a level one risk (marginal) on Monday (bottom graphic).  Why would they do that?  Let me explain beginning with the upper air flow.

The main dynamics will stay over the Great Lakes and not dive to the south.  Watch what happens to the weak trough over the Dakotas.

It races into Minnesota on Sunday (middle view) and deepens over the Lakes on Monday.  To me, that is NOT a set up for any severe weather here.  The other reason?  Gulf moisture is limited.

Dew points in the 60s over south Texas will spread over us tomorrow making it feel different.  Yeah, we might see some showers & some thunder on Monday, but I cringe when I see stations calling for their Alert/Impact days just because the severe threat is not zero.  I guess almost every day this Summer will be an Alert/Impact day?

Enjoy your Sunday and we'll give it another look for Monday.  I like it when SPC decreases the severe risk as it reaches us.  Stay tuned!
