Winter Is Over, But Chilly Start For Friday

The Vernal Equinox (Spring) occurred at 4:01 AM this morning marking the time when both hemispheres receive equal daylight and Nighttime.  Because the Earth is tilted on its axis 23.5 degrees, as it orbits the Sun, that tilt creates our seasons.

As we transition into summer, the northern hemisphere receives more sunlight and gets warmer.  But our warm-up will have to wait as an overnight cold front has pushed way down over the southern Gulf.

Satellite views are showing zero return flow off the Gulf so our dry, good-feel air will hang around into Saturday.  That dry air along with lighter winds will allow for a chilly start on Friday.  FOX 8 has issued a First Alert for possible patchy frost on the North Shore.

The center of the surface high is just west of Houston and, as it drifts over us tonight, winds will decrease allowing for that chilly Friday morning.   Looking down the road, the upper flow will remain progressive (fast west to east) and that will bring another front here by late Sunday into Monday.

SPC is hinting at a slight severe threat late Sunday into Monday, but from what I'm seeing from both models (Euro & GFS) aren't developing a deep dip in the jet stream that produces severe storms.  Showers? maybe, but I don't think the conditions will set up like last week.  As you know, I hate talking about possible storms that far ahead of time.  We'll give it another look tomorrow.  Let's enjoy what we have now.

Remember the frost threat is only for folks far north as the warmer waters of Lake P. (mid 60s) will keep the South Shore 40-45.   Of course, with trees sprouting, flowers blooming & grasses emerging, my allergies have kicked in.  I'm sure I'm not alone?!!!  Stay tuned!
