Drought Busting Rains Soak NOLA, Stalled Boundary Keeps Us Wet Next 2 Days...

I've talked about how difficult it is to break out of wet/dry weather cycles.  Sunday was day 14 without rain at MSY.  But today saw an explosion of storms fire right over the South Shore, triggering flood warnings.  The actual surface front is stalled to our west, but it's near enough, coupled with weak upper disturbances, to trigger these storms.  Expect more heavy storms Tuesday and Wednesday before an upper high rebuilds over us by late week just in time for Jazz Fest & the PGA Zurich Classic.

It's difficult to locate the surface front as temps behind it in Texas are 80+

The really drier air/lower dew points are stuck back west of Houston and the upper SW flow will not allow much movement in the short term.

So with that boundary draped near us, we need to pay attention for more training storms Tuesday & Wednesday.  When it rains it pours and today it's pouring & pouring & pouring.   I'd limit my driving for the next couple of hours as pumps are being overwhelmed.

Today's coverage is 40-60%, but those who are getting wet are being bombed.  This is a severe rain event for the next 1-2+ hours.  Pay attention!  Stay tuned!
