Dry Pattern Continues, Weak Front Late Tuesday. Storm Threat Staying Far North.

I've often posted about CYCLES in weather that sometimes last a few weeks or even months.  It's great if your location is on the beautiful weather side, but not so if you're stuck in nasty.  We've been enjoying terrific weather which will continue into next week.  Why?  Just look at the upper air pattern.  The southern states are under an upper ridge providing warm temps with plenty of sunshine.

Where upper air disturbances keep coming out of Canada (Clippers), folks across the northern plains are stuck with heavy coats.  But look over the South.  60s into New England, 80s into Virginia while Denver is in the 40s.  Where the 2 different air masses collide, that's where storms are firing.  SPC had the Level 3 severe risk out ahead of time.

The good news is today's rains will not affect the lower Mississippi River levels.

The Army Corps of Engineers has come up with "Flood Fight" levels. As of today, since the Mississippi at the Carrollton gage is above 11", they have implemented level one, which is basically observe and pay attention.  They are gearing up to open the Bonnet Carre Spillway IF the river level forecast goes above 17'.  As of this afternoon, they don't believe that will be necessary.

We begin Holy Week with very comfy temps.  As we head towards the Easter Weekend, the heat kicks in along with higher humidity.  It'll almost feel hot, and we're only in mid-April!   I still see a couple more weak fronts the last half of this month.  But let's face it, we know what's coming.  Enjoy the next few days.  Stay tuned!
