Podcast Begins Tonight, On Cue, Erin Forms In Atlantic, More To Follow

Those of you who have already subscribed to my podcast could have viewed our rehearsals the past 2 nights.  Tonight is for real, and the Tropics are cooperating with lots of action to follow.  NHC has highlighted 2 areas far off the East Coast that will be fish storms if named, but the real system to watch is newly named Tropical Storm Eric just off the African coast.   NHC is predicting it will become this season's first Hurricane by Wednesday & a major (Cat. 3) by Saturday. Let's look at the graphics.

The two circles show well-defined swirls of low pressure that could be named IF some T-Storms form around their rotation.  Tropical Storm Erin is the tight little blob far out in the Atlantic.

Those of you who have followed me since the late 70s know I'm a big fan of the center line track.  With a storm that far out, it really is not so important.  However, once it gets closer to any land, tracking the centerline and watching for any trends becomes more important.  Right now, what we don't want is for Erin to take her track on the southern part of the NHC cone.  That would bring a threat to the Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico for this weekend.  Typically, as a storm moves westward over the Atlantic, it can't turn to the north because of the Atlantic Ridge.  Usually, the stronger the storm, a turn to the north happens sooner.  That is why you are seeing that slight bend to the north of the islands.  Let's hope so.  Unless something really wild happens, Erin should NOT be a Gulf Storm.  Closer to home,..

We still have lots of swirls along several boundaries along the northern & eastern Gulf extending NE over the Carolinas.  The most defined circulation is nearing the Florida panhandle coast south of Apalachicola.  NHC has yet to mention it and the closeness to land will limit any development.  Models bring a moisture surge over us for Wednesday.  It's the time of year we pay attention to the Tropics.

I've made it easier for you to feel less anxious this year.  Tonight launches my Podcast when you can have me wherever you go, whenever you want.  It's a simple $24/year ($2/month) subscription that will allow you to hear my voice & see me just like in the "good old days".  Sign up and come follow me.  Stay tuned!
