Those of you who have followed this blog post know we "turned out the Lights" back on October 14th based on no storms forming in the Gulf and the lowering of the jet stream farther southward that would turn any storm in the southern Gulf away from the northern Gulf. In Brian Norcross's guest podcast, he basically said our season was over and he was correct. Nothing has ever formed in the Gulf and the fronts keep coming. The only game in town is Melissa, but what a game she is! Her cloud structure is a classic major Hurricane.
I've seen a lot of hurricanes in my lifetime, but these pics are as good as they get. NHC is claiming Melissa has begun her turn to the north.
Melissa has gone farther west than models predicted, and if she doesn't make a really sharp turn soon, her major impacts could just brush Jamaica.. Cuba won't be so lucky as the storm then heads towards the Bahamas. The United States is protected from any storms as there is another sharp east coast upper trough.
The upper low over Kentucky will deepen the eastern trough keeping Melissa away, but more importantly for us, bring down the coldest air so far this Fall.
You don't see the cold yet on the temperature map, but you will by Wednesday.
Nights will dip into the 40s & 50s with highs staying into the 60s. That's sweater weather to me. I'm feeling little better today as I began PT. Thanks for everyone who has shared their concerns. Stay tuned!
