Major Hurricane Melissa slammed into western Jamaica this morning with nearly 200 mph winds. Most structures will not survive that kind of force. Let's hope those in low-lying areas moved away from the water. Jamaica's tall mountains (7,000'+) have torn into her circulation, with her eye no longer visible.
This storm, I fear, will bring a huge loss of life as one of the strongest hurricanes ever on the planet. Please stop and pray for this island that doesn't have the resources we enjoy here in the States.
Plus, she's not done. Next is Cuba, then the Bahamas, then Bermuda. For us, the strongest front of the season is coming.
As this next upper dip dives down over the Plains, the strong SW shear over the East coast will pick up Melissa and rapidly turn her out to sea.
Note how the 40s cover most of the western states. We'll need sweaters and jackets here, especially with the brisk northerly winds behind the front.
You have to go back to April to find highs staying in the 60s. Should feel good with the lower humidity. Finally,
